General Qualities & Characteristics

Gulfmar AC are a range of alkaline detergent crankcase system oils for use in highly rated crosshead marine diesel engines particularly those with oil cooled pistons. It is formulated from high quality paraffinic base oils and the latest additives to exceed MIL-L-2104C performance levels.

Application Requirements
Marine engine oils are often subject to the ingress of salt water. Gulfmar AC has been specially developed to ensure excellent water separation and minimum additive loss during centrifuging and purifying. Gulfmar AC reduces the formation of harmful deposits and sludge and neutralizes strong acids that can be formed from combustion products. It has excellent oxidation stability, ensuring resistance to oil thickening and reduces the formation of deposits in under-piston deposits.

Recommendations
Gulfmar AC may be used in highly rated, turbocharged crosshead engines burning distillate fuels with a sulfur content below 1 % wt. It is also suitable in certain geared transmissions and oil lubricated stern tubes and other ancillary equipment where an SAE 30 or 40 oil is specified. Normal centrifuging used for detergent type oils is recommended for Gulfmar AC.

Advantages
Gulfmar AC offers:
  •      Reduced deposits and formation of sludge
  •      Excellent protection against salt water.
  •      Minimal deposits in under-piston area
  •      Excellent oxidation stability and resistance to thickening
  •      Long oil service life
