General Qualities & Characteristics

Gulf Gear Oil S.T. is a high quality mild-antiwear type gear oil suitable for use in automotive transmissions of the non-automatic type and in some spiral bevel and worm gear differentials where extreme pressure characteristics are not required. Gulf Gear Oil S.T is available in SAE 90 and 140 viscosity grades. They are manufactured from paraffinic type base oils and have high viscosity indices for gear oils of this type. They are stable in service and contain an anti-foam agent to prevent foaming in gear cases even under severe load, speed and temperature conditions. They will not oxidize excessively in normal service.

Recommendations
Gulf Gear Oil S.T. 90 is generally recommended for winter use, particularly in extremely low temperature operations. It will minimize winter gear changing difficulties in synchronous and bevel gear transmissions. Gulf Gear Oil S.T.  90 may also be used in many transmissions and in some rear axles during summer operation. Consult manufacturer’s recommendations for the proper grade.
Gulf Gear Oil S.T. 140 is recommended for summer use where a heavier oil is desired such as in truck and heavy duty transmissions and in rear axles of trucks and tractor final drives where the manufacturer recommends this grade of straight mineral oil.
Gulf Gear Oil S.T. 140  is supplied  for use where a mild antiwear mineral gear oil is desired or required. Our preferred recommendation for most automotive applications, however, is Gulf EP or MP gear oil  in the appropriate viscosity grade.
